The challenge
New and changing obligations were landing on finance at once: retention and payment-practice reporting, e-invoicing mandates in European countries, and construction-industry tax and VAT treatment flowing across several systems. The risk was producing outputs that looked compliant but couldn’t be reconciled, explained or repeated.
- First country on PEPPOL
- Group finance
E-invoicing readiness began with one country and a scope designed to extend to further mandates.
Our approach
- Retentions and payment reporting: reviewed the statutory requirements and AP/AR retention reconciliations, defined how deductions, releases and the reporting population should be treated, and worked with a technical colleague to build the reports. We escalated when a reporting deadline and unreconciled figures created risk.
- E-invoicing: authored the decision paper on the country landscape, which senior leadership endorsed, then completed the platform scope and data requirements for the first country’s move to PEPPOL, aligning supplier communications with production readiness.
- Construction tax and VAT: separated confirmed issues from assumptions, tested how data moved between source systems, the ERP and the AP platform, and set up a focused review with Tax and AP to fix the actual gaps.

The outcome
- AP and AR retention reports delivered on time, ready for compliance analysis and review
- An endorsed e-invoicing strategy and a completed implementation scope for the first country
